Late May of 2009, was brought the news that Ridley Scott and Tony were going to resurrect the Alien franchise. The direction of this new film, a prequel, was initially assigned by the two brothers Scott Carl Rinsch, but Fox chose to take two months after the same Ridley, because the study only the name of the latter could restore life to 'interest of fans, went to the continued operation of the dying franchise.

The prequel will consist of two parts, currently untitled, which will both be filmed in 3D and will be set in 2085, 30 years before the events of Alien. The two films will reveal the identity of the giant alien unknown, the Space Jockey, fossilized in the chain of command of the ship derelict accessed by the crew of the Nostromo in Alien beginning. In the novels written by Alan Dean Foster's Alien, the Space Jockey is described as a noble race, bigger, stronger and smarter than humans, but no word yet on whether this feature will remain in the two films.

In late July, Damon Lindelof (Lost) has been hired to rewrite the script of the first film, the end of work in mid-October. The studio thinks he can get a PG-13 rating since it does not appear in the movie sex scenes and the language used is not too foul. Even in this script were described scenes of violence outside the rooms, taking the style of the original film of 1979.

Scott suggested that Zeta Reticuli 2, the same system found in Alien, will have a much more prominent role in two films, and he added that will be analyzed in depth the ideas about terraforming - or take the planets, planetoids and balls of land and try to reclaim land and inseminarlo to allow a future life - and the conditions that led humanity to leave Earth for another planet. The process of terraforming, which will be used to make other planets habitable for humans, will be led by the Weyland Corporation, which merged the company with the Yutani Corporation and formed the Weyland-Yutani Corp., which created the corporate so many problems in the Alien series.

As for the original design of the creatures of HR Giger, Scott thinks they are now strausati and would like to collaborate with the artist to create something totally different.

In mid-January 2011, the 20th Century Fox has announced that the film will be called Prometheus and will star actress Noomi Rapace (Men Who Hate Women) in the role of Elizabeth Shaw. Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie are circulating other roles called "Vickers".

The story, first established as a prequel to the movie Alien hands of Jon Spaith, was subsequently re-drafted last year by Scott and Lindelof. Although Allen has been the starting point of the project, the writers have created a mythology and a much larger universe in which we can recognize elements of the DNA of aliens that are not present in this film.

Scott reveals that he cut the film in order to avoid vm -18 and not to lose about 80 million at the box office. He also admitted that the film will be released in the extended version, unrated or director's cut, the extended scenes are included in the menu, apart.
