ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESENTS the Slayer
The director of "The legend of the vampire hunter"
is said to exclusive Film.it
"The peculiar thing is that Timur he is constantly
striving to find a new way to film an action sequence. Trying to bow out the
characters, killing them as was never done before." Word of Benjamin
Walker in "THE LEGEND OF THE VAMPIRE HUNTER" interprets as Abraham
Lincoln that has been deleted from the Italian title.
THE LEGEND OF THE VAMPIRE HUNTER - THE TRAILER
It is hard to forget one of the last sequences of
"Wanted", Angelina Jolie when they take out half a dozen characters
using the same bullet. It's been four years since that movie and Timur
Bekmambetov has just completed a new adventure: his journey in American
history, including presidents who want to change the face of a country and
vampires who want to enslave it. "I always try to find a logical key in
all that we can film it" - the director tells us when we call in his hotel
suite in New York on the day when his new collaboration with producer TIM
BURTON is presented to the press.
"The legend of the vampire hunter" makes a reverse
process compared to films like "The Dark Knight." If with the
costumed heroes of Nolan will always try to go on a real plane, in your film is
part of reality and were close to the supernatural...
The secret is to base everything on the humor and practical
problems with which the audience could identify. Then I had to find the right
actor.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER review |
Why, then, choose a relatively unknown actor for a role this
big?
Because I wanted to make a film about Abraham Lincoln. Not
by Tom Hanks who played Lincoln. I wanted the audience was distracted and not
really believed it. That's why I preferred to take an actor too famous. Anyway,
Ben was born for this role. He says no, he's Lincoln!
The original title of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire
Hunter" is a bit 'that mix of genres so dear to Tim Burton. What was your
first reaction when you were offered this bizarre movie called?
Actually I was already thinking about a movie like this with
a historical figure who fought against the vampires. At some point I have sent
the book by Seth Grahame-Smith. As if it was raining from the sky. I think that
the involvement of Tim Burton was a logical thing. And mine too. I love the
story. I also have a childlike quality: I love to destroy things...
With Tim Burton have already produced the animated film
"9". How did you become friends? As you have worked together on the
set?
Tim has always been an icon for me. We met by chance: we
have the same agent. I would say that I made this film for him. In the sense
that the manufacturer for me is like the viewer, so my job is to entertain. Tim
was my bridge of communication with the audience.
No pressure. The truth? Americans deal with everything and
do it every day. Why, then, a Russian-Kazakh cannot make a film about one of
their presidents? Rather than tell the figure of an American president, I
wanted to show one of the myths that changed the world. Everyone can be
inspired by him.
Use to turn it into a political hero Slayer. The film comes
at a time when politicians are seen as the first vampire. If ambientassi today,
would you change the perspective?
Absolutely not. Politicians may be vampires or vampire
hunters. You cannot escape this thing. But I think, as you will see with
Lincoln, behind every great man is concealing a big secret. My vampires are a
social metaphor: they are men who want to organize the world around fears. They
want to control in this way. Today it is still true. Lincoln thought just the
opposite: he thought the free world and the choice that you can have forever.
This great idea has convinced me to do the film.

You beat time on Spielberg. He too has made a film of
"Lincoln." Has there ever been a face to face?
Not really. Missavamo the film in the same study. But we
never met.
The big question of Film.it. Did you have any posters in
your room when you were a kid?
At the time it was impossible to find posters. But there was
a movie theater near my house. I went out on the street and remained staring at
those posters. There were two a week, both designed by one artist. And the nice
thing is that it was of Italian films. I remember 'Amarcord' by Fellini. Scola
and Bertolucci's films. And that movie changed my life: 'Dillinger is dead' by
Marco Ferreri. At the time I was studying engineering. After seeing that movie
I dropped everything and decided what to do. In a way this movie was released.
